Getting the Word Out
Public relations (PR) is the practice of managing the communication between an organization and the public. It provides exposure to an audience using topics of public interest and news.
3rd Party
Because public relations places exposure in credible third-party outlets, it offers a third-party legitimacy - where advertising does not. Common activities include networking, speaking at conferences submitting information and working with the press. It is something that is not tangible which is what sets it apart from marketing and advertising.
Building Rapport
PR can be used to build rapport with potential and current employees, customers, investors, voters, or the general public. Almost every organization that has a stake in how it is portrayed in the public arena works some level of public relations.
Samples
Most of the awareness that we have built for companies has been accomplished on PR websites. There are several good, free PR sites where articles can be written and published. Also, there are PR sites that cost. The fee to post an article on the paid sites is typically low and these sites are spidered well with the major search engines so visibility is good.
